We have (4) 160 watt vho bulbs on our 6' 180 gallon tank. Don't believe what some people will say, vho bulbs are great. They run cooler and grow great sps and lps. We do have a 125 with halides which does promote better growth, but as long as we keep nutrient levels low (which is a problem w/ our large fish) we can keep most anything healthy.

Wrong forum? This is the NPS forum?
To answer your question, you'd be able to keep softies and most LPS

most of the light intense corals require 3-4 watts per gallon
that theory is pretty busted... Different lighting put out more PAR per watt (think leds) than others, also according to that rule you could keep SPS under a shop light in a pico reef.
