I am contemplating upgrading my lighting, as the lights I had over my 30 are barely adequate for my 55. I currently have T5's. I am looking at MH lights and notice the ballast only has the 2 MH bulbs and several blue moon LED's. Are there no actinics necessary when using MH bulbs?

Not if there is enough leds......otherwise I would say there should be either vho, t5, or compact flourescents.....(I don't think I spelled that right....oh well) . MH suck a ton of power and are a very high out put....like on my 125 I have a 3 MH system. 3mh, 4 compact flourescents and 4 tri leds. I only keep the halides on for 4-5 hrs a day....MAX! I dont think you just want a few hours a day of seeing your tank. Id look around more.
