I currently have power compacts (2x96W) over my 55 gallon seahorse tank. I use these only because I like the look of macro in the tank. I would like to switch to T5's & ditch the PC's. Would 2-39W HO T5 bulbs be enough to still grow macro?

I've grown macro successfully under every light, including incandescent! I think the only thing you'll notice is slower growth. You may also want to look at getting a lower color temp; 6500k vs 10,000k to promote algal growth.

I keep caulerpa in my 55g under a 17w NO flourescent.

I think hes actually going to get better growth from 2x39w T5s than from 2x96w PCs.
