lightroom and watermarks

I posted this same question months ago. I never did figure it out, hoping maybe someone has some insight that could maybe help.

I want to add a custom watermark to my pictures. I use lightroom to PP and the only thing I can seem to get it to do is to add a generic and very tiny watermark and without any choice for placement.

Does anyone know of a simple to use program I could use to add a custom watermark wherever I want, or better yet, how to incorporate a custom watermark into lightroom and the ability to place it wherever I want??

Thanks in advance for any help :)

You can use the identity plate but it's a PITA.

All I use on my images is "Doug Otto © 2009" which I put in the Copyright field in my meta data. On export I choose the add copyright watermark which drops it in the lower left corner.

If you want fancier than that you'll need to do it in PS.

Thanks beerguy. that ws the response I got months ago, it might even have been your response. lol

sorry for the redundancy. :) I was hoping something had changed

I use lightroom becasue i dont know how nor do i want to learn PS. Lightroom does everything I need and then some....except for adding a nice sig to my pics.

flyyguy-

Go to print and open overlay. Then check the box for custom identify plate. Click on the down arrow and hit edit. You can choose the type style, color, size, whatever. You can even add an image to your name plate. Once your done you'll be able to add to the photo where ever you want. You can also rotate it by clicking on the 0 degree mark. Hope this helps.

would someone care to elaborate on the print to a jpeg file thing for me?
That sounds like something I might be able to do

heck, I take so few pics I really want a watermark on anyway...........

In the "Print Job" box in the print module, the first setting is "Print to:" Click it and select JPG File and then click Print.

ok...one more computer dumb guy question....I really appreciae your time

Im thinking about how exactly I will place the watermark exactly where I want to. Is there a way to easily format the page you are printing(the one with your watermark .jpg), to be the same size an d shape as the picture you are printing to so you can control more or les exactly where it gets placed??

Or is there a better way to do this??

 The "better way" is doing it in PS.

With this method, placement is manual. You'll have to adjust it any time the size or orientation of your image changes.

because I get lucky enough now and then that people ask me to use my various photos for various educational and retail websites, and I just want to stamp a small appropriately placed "fly" on them to show they are mine.

the same reasons anyone would want to watermark their photos

Why would you sign a divers license or check from an employer either? I just don't understand this phenomenon of marking things as your own...it probably won't last like any other fad. Pablo Picasso is an idiot for watermarking his paintings as well. Why can't he see that nobody cares about his signature on the bottom of his work? It just ruins it.

lol at self for not seeing sarcasm the first pass I read that and replying..................
