linkia starfish

Talk to your favorite store to get you one, they do not usually get them as they are not very commercial. Alternatively you can get it from liveaquaria.com they have blues and burgundy . They are not expensive but very delicate, you need to insure is very healthy and also you will need at least 150 pounds of live rock for it to survive (Feeds of the rock surface bacterial growth)

Coral Reef had a whole tankfull of those red ones w/cool white patterns on front (I forget what they're called). I got a similar one from Sharky's but it didn't make it (tank was too new, I think). Got an orange that did great & a blue one, that I've had almost a year. If I were you, I'd start out w/an orange one. They seem to be the most sucessfull.

I just got a pink tile one from Dark Lord Coral, they had a bunch of red & pink ones. I also got a cool dendro, they have a ton of them! I really wanted some micros but they are just a tad out of my price range.

I will get some pics with the lights on tomorrow :)

Thanks, "tile" was what I was thinking of! Got mine from Sharky's for $20, I think that's what they were at Coral Reef too. What you'd pay for yours? Pics of the Dendro?

Look for a purple one. IMO (based on discussions with several LFS and reefers who have owned them) they have a greater survival rate in a home aquarium. Maybe it has to do with where they are collected, I don't know. Next would be the blue and last the red Linkias.

For what it's worth, the "tile" stars are a Fromia, not Linckia. They are both reef safe and have similar care requirements (stable water params being the key).

I heard that the orange were the easiest & to stay away from the blues completely. I got reamed by some friends at IMAC after buying one, cause they had just heard Bob Fenner's lecture on them, saying they are best kept in the wild & not in tanks. Fortunately, mine has been in my tank since then & is doing great!

i bought a blue one from petco in vernon hills for $11.99...... not a bad deal. bought it last week, was stuck on the the front of the tank for three days. has been 4 days and cant find it.
