lionfish gasping

I was out at the lfs tonight that I sold my lion to for store credit. They say the tank basically crashed and now the lion is gasping for air. It is basically swimming vertical and breathing heavy, then will pop out of the surface and take a big breath. I watched it actually sit with its head out for almost a minute. I talked them into putting a powerhead in there and adding oxygen into the tank which seemed to help after a few minutes. Any other ideas to help keep this guy alive?

for starters the lfs should not be keeping him in a tank that crashed...that is just animal cruelty...they should transfer him to an established tank, if they don't they are a poor excuse for an lfs...

Well it is a established tank. Their biggest tank they hold stuff for sale in. Not the point. This is a help the fish thread, don't turn it into a bash the lfs thread.

They need to spike his food with lots of vitamins to help boost his immune system, because he is probably really stressed out. You add more oxygen and water flow, which is great. It would probably be best to do a water change. Lionfish are surprisingly strong fish so I hope he will pull through...sorry, i just hate it when fish suffer...i am really happy to know that someone is watching out for the little guy

They were going to change the water tonight as well. I grew this guy from 2-3 inches to about the 7 it is now. I am working on upgrading, meaning tank is being built now, but I just wont make it done before it outgrows my current tank. Hopefully somebody else gets him and enjoys him too.

I didn't mean to come off coarse, but I would really like to see this guy pull through.

What the fish? Lion, but my daughter screams lionfish every time she saw it. I ended up with a dwarf lion to keep her happy. My daughter is 2 so she loves fishies, the lion was probably her favorite I had.

I gave up naming fish. With seven tanks running I would run out of names!
