Live food ?

I've never had to purchase live foods like pods before. I just keep a good stock of healthy macros like chaeto in my system and the pods thrive.

I also keep a few piles of rock rubble hidden throughout my tank as well - gives the pods a safe place to multiply.

Even if you buy pods, you should do something of that sort to ensure a nice constant supply of them.

My fave for live mysis is http://www.aquaculturestore.com/swinverts.html
I ordered a bag of 100 mysid opossum for $20 (+free live shipping) to seed my fuge. Eventually they migrated into the main tank, the overflows and filter bags (I scan for them with a flashlight before I dump it). They just keep breeding and making more live mysids. My LPS and my Bangaiis love them.

edit: you can also get pods, but also check out http://www.reefnutrition.com/ They'll have a booth at the WMC!

I had a bottle of the tigger pods from reefnutrition, but I have not seen the pods since I put them in the tank, I have alot of Mysis though, I wonder if the Mysis ate the tiggers???

SEE THE THING IS I HAVE " sry for caps lock" a scooter dragonet, I dont know if they could eat the mysis shrimp. Its mouth is a lil small, But i read about the two i mentioned nothing about mysis. I have a 10g tank i could use for reproduction of whatever I get. I was looking at the tigger pods and try to have them reproduce.

a 1/4 inch which is the size for the mysys I believe is too big for them. maybe baby brine shrimp.

thank you for the links everyone and the help

Could very well be, they make excellent food for other critters (mysids included) :D Could also be the lack of diatoms that the Tiggers so love to eat :)

Nu2SW -

if you want pods, just get some chaeto from someone. If you need some, I have some that I can trim for you. You mentioned growing pods inside a separate 10G. Is this going to be a refugium hooked up to your tank? Otherwise, you're going to have to try to siphon some out and put it in your main tank - which can be a PIA. You will want to plumb your "pod tank" with your main tank and have the water automatically pump some pods from the refugium to main tank.

As far tigger pod - I think I heard someone growing them inside a 2 litter bottle. THey would feed it phytofeast, and once a week, drain half of the container off to further culture more tigger pods. Tigger pods are pretty cool to look at. I dumped a whole bottle in my tank, but haven't seen any in a long time. Of course - just because I can't see them doesn't mean that they aren't there.

Scooter Dragonett is a very risky fish to start out with in a brand new tank, but they certainly can chase, catch and eat live mysids. Adult mysids 1/4" long are only about 1/16"-3/32" in diameter (not sure about metric). Mandarins are a member of the Dragonett family and have very similarly shaped mouths. The mouths actually open pretty wide when they flex their jaws, plus the mysids have a soft body and the Dragonetts suck 'em right up. Try starting your Dragonett out on frozen Mysids (NOT brineshrimp) buy placing a small pile in an ara of low flow where it will find it easily. Right now I'm using Hikari Mysids (but plan on switching to PE Mysis after the WMC), and my corals and fish also love frozen Cyclop-eeze available at O-Street:

Rich-

The PE mysis are considerably larger than Hikari. I feed my fish Hikari, but the seahorses get PE. I don't keep anything in the Dragonett family, so I can't say for sure if the PE are too big for them.

yeah My wife picked it up, I dont like to buy anything without doing research on it first, But since she got it NOW im in a rush to find all i can about it, Ive been doing alot of readin on wetweb. Ill stop by Ost tonight and get some mysis and see if he will take that.

Oh the green manadrin, those are nice lookin fish, My wife wants one of those I told her. "IF" we get one, and i put alot on the IF, it would be atleast 6-9 months....

Im putting alot of focus to my little scooter so it doesnt starve, If i cant get it to eat I might see if someone with an establishd tank would want it. But well see how it goes.

thanks for the links rich, that melvs with the sauce jar I might do that see how he/she does with that.
