Live Rock/Base Rock Needed

Ok guys and gals. Due to some Live Rock I purchased from someone that looked clean, but wasn't. I have had to remove 85% of all my live rock from both my tanks. I had an Aptasia infestation that has just taken over. I tried everything anyone would recommend to me, Berghia Nudibranches ($150 worth), Peppermint Shrimp, the aptasia control, etc.

I have removed all the rock from my 300 Gallon, and as much as I could from my 55 gallon. I will be trying to save all the rocks in my 55 gallon with corals on them by trying to focus in with my aptasia control. The 300 has about 7 rocks in it now, and I really need tons and tons of rock to put in there.

I am looking for cheap live rock with no Aptasia or Algae problems, and any base rock anyone has. I don't want to drop a small fortune on Live Rock especially after basically just tossing 120 lbs of live rock on the back porch to sun bleach.

Let me know if anyone has anything. Thanks.

you removed most the rock? what did you do with it? could have baked it or dry it out in the sun turn into dead based rock and reused it!

I am doing that now. It is on the back porch in the sun about 12 hours a day, and has been for about 10 days now.

I have heard of all kinds of issues of the Aptasia coming back, and things of that sort, so I am not dead set on putting it back in my tank, although I would love to because it was great looking rock, and had corraline all over it.

I don't know how long to wait either. Some people having been saying a month, and others a year.

Not sure, if I want to try to put it back in, and if I do, when to do so.

if you can boil some of it. then lay them out till dry you'll be fine. also call your local landscape company and ask it they have some lacer rock.

You say you need some base or live rock....I just went to petes today and they have both that they are getting rid of soon..You really need to go up there..

I will head up to Santa Fe. Where in Santa Fe is Petes? Never been there. Any idea what time they close?

LOL.....Nevermind....Googled it!!! :P

Pete's is smoking crack. This is WAAAYYYY over-priced. No wonder they are going out of business. Glad I called and didn't drive all the way out there. Man, I hate when places try to gouge me. I can get live rock from out of town shipped for way less than that. I don't mind paying a little more to keep my business in Albuquerque, and get my product today, but even their going-out-of-business sale price is outrageous.

I think the most I have ever paid for live rock from a pet store is $8/lb for some really nice, corraline-covered live rock. Anyways, just happy I called first because that is an hour drive from my house, and I almost walked out the door without calling.

Live Rock $12.99/lb. minus 30% is about $9/lb

LOL.....Would cost me almost $2700 to get a light amount of live rock from Pete's to fill my 300 Gallon tank. I am just baffled by that price.

Southwest Reef is probably the cheapest in town for Live Rock.

$4.99/lb.

Killingseed -- Thanks for the idea. I will call around and see if I can get some Lace Rock for cheap for the base rock. Great idea, much appreciated.

I would call Dave Bager at Florida Live Rock.com It is the same source where Petes Pets gets their rock from. He would probably give you a good discount for that much rock. He will ship it to the airport in ABQ and you can pick it up thier. It is much nicer rock than any I've seen in ABQ. It has alot of life on it and won't really need to be cycyled since he dives for it the same day it is shipped. He will ship it in the afternoon and you will get it the next morning. Floridaliverock.com Phone: 813-948-9121 - Dale . $12.99 is alot at Petes but is really is great rock. I think Dale charges about $2.99 per lb plus shipping which is about $90.00 to ABQ. Check out my tank on this site, 70 gal new tank. You can see the sponges and life on the rock. Hope this helps.

I just checked and Dave has a sale right now on his standard Coraline Rock for $1.99 per lb. Its really great stufff. Good luck

Jayl65 - I will give him a call. That is a great idea and comes straight from the ocean, can't beat that.

Under - Well, I need at least 100 lbs for now. I want to get my tank full, but will settle for just any good live rock right now. It doesn't have to all be live to, so I am going to try to get some lace rock for the base. It will become corraline covered pretty quickly.

Cruces is a bit far, but now with that 58 Gallon tank and live rock, might make it worth while LOL.

EL-Jefe - did you tanke a look at his site? I got only 15 lbs of the stuff from Petes Pets to suppliment about 80 lbs of regular stuff I had in the tank already. Its crazy all of the life that is comming off of it. Everyday I find somthing else. This stuff is loaded with life. Dale seems nice. I've talked to him a few times and decided just to get mine from Petes since I needed so little. He also sells live sand which is suppose to be great. Good luck with your tank. Jamie

dude you have been offered live rock 2 or 3 times cultured/purple.$3lb by just about everybody who has torn down their tank in the last year and have never wanted it..I really dont know what you are looking on here !

besides Pete's has lace rock and isnt Fins and Critters also going out of business and also have a ton of lace rock as well?

Dude, I am not looking to pay my *** out for live rock/base rock. I bought as much as I could from Holly, and no one else has offered me live rock except Underwateroasis who is in Las Cruces. Quite the drive, but I am still thinking about it.

$9/lb is outrageous and just about anyone would agree with me. I think even $5/lb is kinda high, but I will pay that and have paid that. I bought live rock from Clark's when I first started, and it was apparently turned in by a customer, I paid $6/lb and it had aptasia. I thought they were corals when I first started 2+yrs ago, and ended up wasting my money on that rock too. So far I have paid high prices for live rock, and it has been a waste of money.

Who else has offered live rock? No one that I know of, who doesn't have aptasia or algae issues. Besides my tank has only been set up for 3 months, so I couldn't buy live rock until it was set up. I have bought out TWO people's COMPLETE contents of their tanks in the last 6 months, one that posted on here. For good prices, like $3/lb. Only to find out that they had aptasia I didn't see when I was viewing their tank before purchasing. That is the rock sitting on my back porch in the sun now.

I don't see why you say I have refused Live Rock, EVER. The only live rock I have passed on was the rest of Holly's live rock which I should have taken, but oh well (I did buy quite a bit from her, and was very appreciative of the good prices she gave me). I actually didn't pass on it, she wanted to keep it until she sold the rest of her corals, I called her back the next day to see if she had sold the corals and to try to get all the rock from her. But she sold all the corals and rock that were left to one person. So technically I didn't even pass on her rock, I just didn't want all the corals yet, just the rock. Other than that, I have not refused Live Rock once that I know of. And I have always paid $3 to $5 per pound or more without complaining.

But a sale price of $9/lb going out of business, come on.

I will just go to Southwest or order online. It is fine.

Uh wow what a rant..You know K2 offered you killer rock twice, lets see K-fed , I tore down a 155bow , Michael, I'm not talking about Petes..I mean really everyone has tried to help you out and you kinda dont take advantage of it..Thats all Im saying..

Edited: Because I will put this in PM. Nothing that needs to be discussed in public. I think this is a misunderstanding.
