Live rock deal has lots of algae

So I just drove to Timbuktu for a steal of a deal on 100 pounds of live rock which looks great in the picture. Get there and it's live alright but covered in green algae. Didn't drive that far for nothing so I grabbed it. Question is that this was for my new tank which has been set up for about a week and only has some dead sand. I wanted this rock to help start my cycle. Should I use it in my tank? Scrub it? Or bleach it and start new...again...
Thoughts?

Could try peroxide, if it’s bryopsis it should do the trick. Personally I wouldn’t bleach if it’s established rock and you’re wanting to use it to seed your tank.

How do you use peroxide to clean it?

3% peroxide, dip for 2 mins then wash in clean saltwater and place back in your tank. By day 2 or 3 it should be gone. Some dilute the peroxide in various ratios of saltwater to peroxide but I’ve used straight peroxide.

I dilute 50% tank water/50% of 3% peroxide and scrub with a toothbrush for 10-15 minutes then quick rinse in freshwater then back into the tank..
Should have near sparkling white rocks in no time and little to any algae left..

Or you can try also try fluconazole. Did you on the lights since you mention its still cycling?

Flucanazole is amazing, but for new rock just being added to the tank, peroxide is the way to go. Good mix of peroxide and tank water, and a good toothbrush scrubbing will knock it right out.

Bleach and acid. Kills it all and should cause no issues down the road. That is what I did to my rock when setting up my tank.
