Live rock in a cycled tank

I have just finished cycling my 70 gallon saltwater tank with 40 lbs dead rock...I'm thinking about adding few pounds of live rock to it... what's your opinion about this? will it be beneficial for me, or just a waste of money & time, since I'll have to wait more time before adding livestock...

Now would be the time to add some in. A few more pounds would more than likely be beneficial for you. If it is live already when you add it, you may not see much of any ammonia spikes at all. good luck just my two cents.

Well... we cycle with dry rocks so we have a clean parasite free tank from the start. Adding live rock from another tank will always have a risk unless you are buying from a trusted seller and the rock is fully cured. Up to you

If the LR yo are adding is coming straight out of another tank its going to be cured and can be added without much risk. Ya, sure, always a risk to add LR from someone else but pretty common. IMO.

40 lbs of rock in a 70 gal tank is a bit low IMO so adding a few pounds of LR wouldn't hurt. Like a couple people said, you do run the risk of adding a few 'unwanted' things especially if it's fresh LR...that being said I've put 100% LR (a lot more lbs than you have too) in several tanks over the years and had no problems so take that as you will.

Check out TBS http://www.tbsaltwater.com/ this would be the way to go and you will get all kinds of hitchhikers most good a few not so good. Many people here have bought from them and I'm thinking about adding 20 lbs or so myself. IMO this would be the way to go for the money you get many extras
