live rock question

im starting another tank its gonna be a 10 gal but the company sent me more live rock than what i paid for for the same price it is cured but about 10 pounds over the amount i need, so im not gonna waste it. i have another tank that has been up for 2 years. could i just ad a small amount of this live rock shippment to this alredy running tank

I would cure it a little first. Does it smell at all? If so definelty cure it a little. I know of people who have put semi-cured LR in tanks and not had a problem, but I have also heard of people having issues.

It depends somewhat on the size of the tank that you'll be putting it in, but generally speaking it should be fine. You usually get some die off in cured live rock that is shipped, so it could cause an ammonia spike in a small tank.

it didnt smell at all but thanks for the help ive decided to leave it in the new tank to cure some before i put in the the other tank
