Live Rock Question

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by that... If it is left out of water or in unfavorable conditions, you can have die off, which can polute the tank... If you're just speaking about the denitrifying (sp?) bacteria, it doesn't lose its function after time... If anything, it will become more affective... "Dead" rock will become live again after a period of time and "seeding" ... Hope this answers your question and helps... :D

Thats alright, I wasn't sure how to answer it... lol Coraline algae is important on rock... It helps to aid in the removal of unwanted nasties in your water and in part is what makes "older" live rock more effective... Some people opt to add that Purple Up stuff to get a boost... I prefer not to, because you don't get the more maroon colored Coraline or green for that matter, though that stuff is hard to get to grow... :( I figure all good things come in time... I just hate the wait period... lol :D
