i was wondering my tank is doing extremely well right now considering that it took forever to get the copper out of my water and my live rock has tons of puple algea on it what comes after the purple algea do things begin to grow off of it now????

Howdy Jenn, what happened to your tank that copper had to be introduced into it? There are a whole host of saltwater species that can not survive in a tank that was dosed with copper, even after the indicators read no copper. Your rock could still be leaching copper back into the water.
If you have to treat with copper, it is best to quarantine the inhabitant into a different tank and medicate in that tank. TinMan

How old is your tank exacly and what are your params at?

Did you use tap water? Im not sure useing copper in the main tank is safe. This is done in a QT tank.

ok what had happened was i had just started my tank and i had gotten some damsels to filter the tank. They were infested with ich and i didnt know it untill i got home so my local fs gave me this stuff called copper power. And of course it worked but then i found out the down falls. But i have been filtering it out with a 75 gallon carbon filter and a 40 gallon crbon filter and also poly filters. All my tests are reading zero including nitrate nitrite ect. so i put some live rock in it and its getting purple algea like crazy and even spreading to my base rock???

also when i first set the tank up i used tap water but then i purhased an ro/di unit which has been working well.

Man you dont need a fish to cycle. Poor damsel. My 2 yellow tails are my fav.You cant rush this hobby. patiants and research are vital.Sounds like you have a minor mess and i really cant help with that copper problem , just to say you need a QT tank to treat the problem. MB take a step back and research before going any further .GL

Did the same thing years ago. Leave it as fish only. Look at the bright side, you have an excuse for a new reef tank

Wow who sold you the fish? The people at my saltwater store wouldn't sell me a fish until i brought them a sample of my tank water. tough when it all starts out bad. thats what worries me

Remember that LFS (most) just want your money . Test them out by researching then while knowing the answer asking them to see if they know what there talking about.I find that if your not sure a simple post in here works wonders.

well it was funny because i got stopped by a guy at this pet store that sold me the damsels and helped get my tank running. This guy name don was looking at his fish and stopped me and my fiance in the parking lot and told me about this pet store his friend owned telling me the fish were half the price of what this pet stores fish were. So i took a ride out there was it awsome we drive an hour to get there and on the tanks he has what everything is and what they eat care level everything!!!! Get this 2 firefish 19.99 powder brown tang 36 bucks he tells me everything i need to know about the fish im getting the fish and colors are magnificiant compared to the other store.If u want a certain fish within a week guareented u will have it. He even got me the tranchula i wanted and hes the reason my tank is doing great right now.

i dont plan on doing corals or anything anytime soon im just getting to know the hobby and the diffrent fish so untill then i guess my tank will be a ok i hope
