live rock?

may want to check the local laws first, it is illegal in most areas. huge fines and jail time would be in the future if caught for sure. that said, if the inlet is traveled by boat at all, chances are the rock has some pollution on it, and would not be good for the tank.

Get it from a local reefer that is reaquascaping or quiting (way cheap) try to find it on your local club forms or craigslist.

if you can get it from the ocean id go out as far as possible. Like paint said it could and probably will have some polutants in it. do the right thing though and check local laws first.

It is illegal to harvest live rock in Florida.
If you want to save some money, you could collect some "dead" coral rock from an area near your house, -thoroughly- clean and decontaminate it, and seed it by mixing it up with some real LR. Check out sealifeinc.net in Tavernier- I got 50# from them for a shipping charge of about $22 to my landlocked location in GA. I did the "dead rock" thing a long time ago when I lived in the Sunshine State, and had a minimal cash flow, but can't really recommend it. You never know if some yahoo drained his oil pan in the same location a couple years back... As the other guys said, you also don't know what you're getting from an inshore source. There's a lot of cool stuff on our LR, and I don't regret dropping the cash on it.
