Hey I am just getting back into the hobby and am getting ready to begin the tank cycle on my 29. I haven't done salt in about 2 years so it feels like forever and I was trying to figure out where the best place to get live rock is. I remember I used to go to the fish bowl and was hoping it was still alive and kicking. I stopped by the new ocean blue in waterford but never really the biggest fan of the pricing. Just trying to get an idea of where I should head back to first. I think our stock is going to be an ocellaris pair, pygmy cherub angel, a few blood shrimp, various crabs and snails, 2 sand sifting stars, and maybe one linkia star. I am not looking to get back into coral because graduate school is right around the corner and I just won't have the time. Also was going to get a firefish or 2 and a pink spotted goby. Any other advice or info would be great, I have always slightly overstocked tanks and been ok so even if I list too many fish there is a good chance with disagreements I will still keep them haha. Anyhow . . . I guess I am back to this hobby which drains my money as fast as I get it lol

Welcome back to the world of reefing. 29 Gallons is going to be a challenging tank to keep with as much life as you plan to put in it. But it sounds like you've made up your mind, so good luck.

As far as live rock, pretty much all the LFS's in Orlando carry LR. Check out the ORCA Sponsor LFS link: http://www.o-r-c-a.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=9

Check around and you'll find the best price.

And be sure to check out an ORCA meeting. Our next meeting will be March 29th. Visit www.o-r-c-a.com for upcoming meeting details.

Cheers!

Matt

Will be on vacation for a few weeks starting saturday so maybe if the gf and I are back in time. I actually used to be a member and hosted a meeting at my house once upon a time haha. Is the former fish bowl still under same ownership as in Senor Greg. It would be good to see that guy again

[welcome]

Although you may be eventually pushing your bioload with the number of fish, 4-5 in a 29 gallon is definitely reasonable if you keep up on water changes and don't overfeed.

I'd second Ocean Direct for Live Rock, its good stuff at a great price. Good luck with the new tank, make sure to pop in over at the nano reef forum...

(and post pics of course ;))

I'll have to check those two out because the only other one in that area I remember was not exactly my favorite. I miss sea in the city though :), I think ill try to stop in to fish bowl to check on some rock after I go sell some old textbooks to pay for the rock lol

Sea in the City is still around, they just moved one building over into a larger store, looks like you will have some rounds to make after you get back from vacation!

something of that nature I haven't been back to the site in years. I sold off all the tanks and livestock and just disappeared into the books but I figure since I'll be graduating soon from undergrad and beginning my Masters program sometime in summer I would spoil myself with a new starter tank lol
