Just got a Lobophyllia. (tooth coral) Nice red color. Curious to know what final placement should be and if these coral will actively eat.

I rescued this lobo from a LFS a few weeks ago. It was wasting away in the back of their tank, tissue had been receding for a while. I got it for next to nothing. It's looking pretty good lately.

I have mine on the sand bed, under dual 150W HQIs. It does pretty well on lights only, but I have been able to entice it to eat mysis a couple of times. After the first time, it's apperance improved dramaticaly. If I feed the tank after the MHs are out, the brain will sometimes eat. I know it wants to eat if it's mouths open when I'm feeding the rest of the tank. It doesn't have big sweepers like an open brain, but it can put food in it's mouth if you get it close to the mouth.

Thats where I put mine for starters. It has a conical base on it and that ususally seems to indicate a sand bed placement. I don't see any mouths on mine yet, but then again it will be a few days before I try to entice it to eat.

Keep it on the sand.. I have pics of mine in my gallery. They have pretty long tentacles so keep them away from other tankmates. After the lights go out, take a small flashlight & take a peek at how long they get. Oh yeah, frozen Cyclopeze is their favorite!
