I need someone local that can cut off about 6" from the top of my 55g. Will a glass company do this, can i do it myself?
if i do it myself i would have to take all the glass apart right?

suggest calling some glass companys

you might be able to do it your self

if you know you can seal the glass and have no problems

If the glass is tempered you can not cut it . I'm pretty sure not even a glass company could.

it is unlikely that the sides of the tank are tempered but the bottom prbobaly is?

I could be wrong but I would also think that it would cost quite a bit for them to do that to an assembled tank. Why not just build your own box out of cut pieces?

I have been thinkin about that but I have been told that precut glass is quite expensive. Does any one know if this is true? I will call a couple of places tomorrow mourinig to get quotes

I bought glass to replace the end panel on a 55 Gal a few months ago from a local glass shop in Kirkwood. At that time I asked about cutting some glass I had on hand (broken back to a 55 Gal). If I remember correctly, they told me it would be $10 a cut. Of course that is for a sheet, not an assembled tank. If its even possible to do, I seriously doubt they would do it for with any kind of guarrentee.
