I was at Bunche Beach (on the way to Ft. Myers Beach) this past weekend and saw a bunch of very small (around 5mm) hermit crabs. Does anyone know if they would be reef safe? I didn't bring any home so I don't have any pictures.
Ive been going out in the boat, and dragging the sand bars with a net. Ive dropped about 10 of the pea sized hermits in my tank. They seem to be fine. To my knowledge there are no "non-reef safe" hermits
The "locals" are probably OK when small. They usually are the large claw kind and when bigger can kill/eat your snails if hungry or want a bigger home.
