Local Source For Live Pods & Phyto?

Does anyone know if any of the Sac area LFS keep live copepod cultures and/or live phytoplankton cultures in stock?

I'd like to try my hand at growing out my own phyto and pods, but I would like to find a local source if possible to avoid having to ship from out of state.

The only local resource I know of is your standard bottle of live copepods from reef nutrition. Sold as tigger pods. I have seen people get them to take off in refugiums.

SaltwaterNoob on here is the best person I know of when it comes to growing phyto and rotifers. Contact him and he will get you on the right track.

I dont culture phyto, too much hassle. I buy super concentrated bottles of it to feed the rotifers. You could always order directly from reef nutrition they are in san jose area.

Thanks guy's!

I will look into it further...

Anthony, is Reef Nutrition where you get your phyto from? How long does it keep?

I tried reef nutritions but I like the one from brine shrimp direct more honestly. But I have only tried the liquid from both to be honest.

If I am successful in growing my own cultures would you be interested in purchasing your supply from me? :twitch:

If you could get it done I am sure there would be several of us who would lobe to buy from you. Although from what I have read on the subject it is a real pita.

The more I learn the less I actually know...

Still very interested in pursuing this.

Anthony, are you breeding Clownfish or feeding Seahorses or something else?

Awesome, thanks for the link!

I'd be interested in a nice pair of Picasso's, they are high on my wish list... that is a big part of why I am actively looking into the art of culturing live foods.

Went shopping for a nice looking pair of Picasso's and ended up scoring this beautiful pair of Black Ice Clowns instead :bounce1:
