Local Stores

Hi everyone,

It's been a long time since I've been to any of the LFS around the area (other than Aqua Workz for some supplies). I need to pick up some CUC critters and maybe some zoas. Would you say there's a better selection at Your Reef or Aqua Life?

Was looking forward to the MARS meeting on Friday, and was going to ask in person. But change of plans and I can't make it now.

Thanks in advance!

Deb

I was just at your reef and aqua life and I would say that your reef has a great selection of high end Zoas and some great deals as well.

I think the best solution here is to go to all the stores!

Everyone seems to have its own strengths and they're pretty close to each other.

Thanks for the replies!

I went to YR and picked up a cute little yellow clown goby. There were some nice corals, and they have a gorgeous blasto... drool, drool. I'll check out Aqua Life and Aquarium Depot this weekend.

I'm finding this tank is full of bubble algae, so need to tackle that before starting to stock. Any thoughts on how to get the algae off the LR when there are zoa colonies on it?

My plan right now is siphoning off as much as I can and scraping it off the rocks along with frequent water changes. I've never had this in either of my previous two tanks, so it's all new to me (and quite a pain in the keester).

Deb get yourself a Sea Hare he will eat it up.
Once it's all gone he will need a new home with new algae to keep him alive.

do sea hares eat bubble algae? Thought it was more hair algae?

found emerald crabs and siphoning with a rigid tube to break off with helpful in removal. fox face and red sea sail fins are also known to eat the stuff but gett big

My bad I read right past the Bubble algae as far as I know sea hares don't eat bubble algae but yes emerald crabs will.
I need to slow down when I read post I was skimming through lol

Fun trip to Aqua Life with the kids today. They each picked out a fish and I picked up a few small frags.

Also took all the rock out of the tank and scraped off bubble algae. One large piece was just covered, but had a nice zoa colony... so we broke off just the piece with the zoas and the rest of the rock is sitting outside. I think I got the majority of it out of the tank, but I fear this will be a long-time battle. For now I'm planning on siphoning out what I can while doing weekly water changes. Maybe my little emerald can keep up with any new growth too.
