Log- Starting a fish tank

The Time has finally come, after moving a gazillion times, getting married buying a house having childern and all of the renovations on the house...Its time to get this baby in its final destination; "IN MY WALL IN MY BASEMENT!"

Man it feels good.
As my thread subject line reads i have a 220 perfecto glass thats about 6 years old. I have a 60gallon octagon as my sump. I have had the tank drilled in the back wall 3 different places
(2) holes being 1 1/2 inch for drains from the tank and a 3rd being 1 inch for a return line from my sump.I will also be adding 2 overflows for better control of water in the main tank and added security for my sake of mind.

My idea is to have it as a 3 viewalble tank in the wall...
But depending on how it turns out i might only have 1 view.
Let me also add the entire basement is being completed not just a fish room etc...

The tanks dimensions are 72x24x30.
I have already purchased the following equipment.
Oceansmotions 8way-version 3
Aquacontroller 3
Baracude pump for closed cloop (8way)
Gex x-55 pump (skimmer)
MRC-3 skimmer (will be orderding the dual injector)
MRC-Calcuim reactor with single chamber
Mag 24 main return to tank from sump
72 inch lighing reflector with 3 mh 10k bulbs & 4 72inch actinic & vho's
Moonlighing lighting i attached on the reflectors outer body

I also want to start this off with asking...
"Can i remove the molding from the bottom of my tank, as a part of it have broken off and i'm concerned when its time to frame it won't have that flush look and it may even come unlevel due to the molding?"

i will also be adding pics as the time progresses

We have finished with the framing about 5 days ago and the drywall was put up and the basment was painted and we ended up with the final result of...

Question...can i remove the molding at the bottom of the tank? As you can see apart of it has broken off, and i want a pure perfect flush frame around the tank.

I would not do that(can i remove the molding at the bottom of the tank?)I had a30G I tryed and it did not work.

Shoe molding is simply a quarter round, available at any lumber yard or home depot. What I would do in your situation, since it sounds like you should not remove the existing trim, is use a nice decorative molding to span the joint between drywall and glass. Do not remove the existing trim just overlap it. Paint it to match the other trim in the room and it will look top notch. That should give you a nice clean look. Keep posting pics, looking forward to seeing where this goes!!

thanks for the reply tundra1000,
i will post pics tonight as i have made a little progress on it. I will also check out the moldings etc...
as i'm interested in seeing where this ends up as well! LOL

You will definitely need to do something about that bottom molding. The way it is now you will have a lot of stress on the right side since it is not supported at the bottom.

I think you can get a new frame from perfecto. It shouldn't be very expensive and it will for sure make you feel better.

Otherwise looking great, will be following along!

thanks...
But i believe i may have to shammy the tank.
I appreciate it and i will be updating tonight when i get home

i think i'm more concerned with the molding

Ok i have further progress...not good progress but progress.
I have been following the diy forums on how to drill tanks, as i have interest in drilling for neccessary things on my tank project.

Well i bought the diamond drill bits from the guy off ebay from Hong Kong, his service was great the drills arrived actually quicker than i thought.

Anyway so i got them and i have a corded drill with the 60cm and the i believe it is 40 cm to to able to drill 1.5 inch holes and 1 inch holes.

Just to be safe i wanted to have a couple of pratice rounds just in case i would happen to break the glass....

well let me tell you i had the pratice and it didn't go every well
here as you can see i not only crakced the glass on 1 side it cracked on every side i attempted to drill it on.

So with that being done i called the local glass dealer and i tried to arrange for my sump tank being drilled and come to find out the entire crew is sick with the flu, so the lady suggested i bring her in on this coming saturday 3/1/08....

So the wainting game has been playing and playing and as each day has gone by i get more and more excited about going on saturday.

Here are the results...
I tried going slow, i even had a consist follow of water from my python hookup which is pictured as well.
