Logistics of Tank Consolidation...

Ok...

So I have a few questions regarding the logistics of tank consolidation... ANY advice you can give me will be GREATLY appreciated!

Here's what's happenng... I'm giving my niece my 12g NanoCube, and keeping my 14g BioCube... I'm going to have to move the residents of my 12g into my 14g... and the residents of my 14g into my 30g...

Everyone confused?

1st question. Is it possible/ok to acclimate the fish and their anemone in the same bucket?

I'm assuming that since my tanks aren't connected - that I'll have to acclimate everything in between tank switches - correct?

I would say it depends on your levels in the tanks if you have roughly the same important parameters (temp, nitrate, SG, no ammonia, nitrites) I personally would just toss them in the new tank.

if theres a difference in anything then you can definitly acclimate them all together and I would not figure it would need a very long acclimation.

Yeah - I wondered if they needed acclimation at all - but I figured to err on the safe side. All of the tanks do have the same parameters... Since I'll need to move them anyway - I figure it won't hurt to mix the water a bit before they go in.. It'll be a nice water change for all my tanks!

Ok -

So 2nd question...

When my niece takes my tank... Here's my plan - let me know what I have wrong or if anything won't work...

I had planned on taking the rock, putting it in a bucket, filling it with tank water, then here's where I'm stumped...

Would it be ok to leave about an inch or two of water and the sand bed - then the nasarius snails in there while it's moved? It's only a 12g nano - so I don't think it'd be too heavy that way...

What do you think? It'll be about a 30 minute ride - then we're going to put the rock back in - 1/2 of the old tank water and 1/2 new water... Will the snails be ok through this?

I'm quite sure they would be. I would say leave as much water as possible in the nano, but only not to disturb the sand bed, depending on how deep it is, you can cause problems by turning it over and stirring it to much.

but the snails will be fine and so will the rock.

It's a fairly shallow sand bed... about 2 inches...

Thank you! I'm sure I'll have more questions!

On another note - I do plan to add some new sand to 2 of the tanks while I'm doing this - because all of my sand beds are a bit too shallow.. Is that ok?

I moved my 12 gallon nano cube last fall pretty much the same way you described and everything was fine. I put the livestock in one bucket with tank water and rock in another with tank water. I did drain almost all of the water and then covered the sand bed with some plastic so that it didn't slosh around too much while moving it. I used half old water and half new water when I filled it back up, everything made it just fine and all of the coral was open by that evening.
