Long Tentacle Plate Coral struggling

Hi everyone,

I recently got a long tentacle plate coral and it has struggled ever since I got it. The tentacles never fully extend (mostly they are withered up) and the base is showing all the time. It now looks like some tentacles may be dying off.

I placed it in the corner of my tank which has quite a bit of flow so that COULD be the problem, but I don't have anywhere else to put it (the entire bottom of my tank gets flow). Would it be wise to temporarily put it up on a rock or something?

Also, I have a yellowhead jawfish who just poured sand all over it last night as well which makes things worse.

Thanks!

All other corals are doing fine so it's not the water.

Now about 1/5 of the plate has lost its tentacles and the skeleton is showing. Is my coral doomed? I've covered up the flow and its place is much more peaceful now.

i have a green ltpc and it dosent like flow or poor water parameters and strong lighting is a must

I have a green one also.

My water is fine as all my other corals including LPS/SPS are fine.

Also, many of my corals have adjusted to the higher flow in my tank. This coral is just struggling.

I have it under 729W of lighting too so its getting plenty of light.

I've temporarily moved it to my roommates tank with less flow hoping it will recover enough to move back into my tank.

LTPC's should be kept in the wild, research corals before you buy!!! I cant stress that enough.. this is similiar 2 the elegance coral ie short lifespan, dont do well in captivity..

Its doomed sorry.. If you want a plate get a short tentical one

paininthewrasse is right, these corals have an extrememly POOR track record in captivity and should probably be left in the ocean.

Thanks guys. I was honestly unaware. I generally read liveaquaria recommendations.

They also had a carnation coral which I know to stay far away from but I had honestly not read anything about LPTC having problems. I have a tongue coral which is the same family is fungia/stpc and I didn't know there was much difference.

I'll be more careful with my next purchase.

Hey man we all do it!
The best thing you can do is to live and learn
Take Care,

i have had for more than 2 years and its doing great. only thing is it doesnt like a lot of flow and poor water. i feed mine random stuff every now and then.
