Guys,
Everything was great till 3 weeks ago when this stringy long (7") red hair algae started growing in the tank.
cleaned the rock last week, it's just as long this week. Sand is nice and white due to goby and snails.
Just put phosguard in canister last week, no big change in phosphate numbers ( only first run of phosguard though)

Taking out 40 lbs of rock each week to clean will drive me right out of the hobby!

20% WC bi weekly.

Any advice would be great

Thanks!

How long are your lights on?

You didn't mention how many or what if any corals you have, but you could try a 3 day lights out.

48" Marineland advanced ( low level lighting) on 6 hours per day. 3 mushroom polyps added last week. Problem was well before adding them

2 clowns
Yellow Tang
Firefighters
Diamond d goby
Blue damsel
assorted snails.

Feed frozen brine shrimp primarily.

Did you see the photo?

No photo posted that I can see. Typically lights out is for cyano, but it can help with all algae problems. I would run some GFO to get those phosphate levels down. Either by a reactor, or just run it in a media bag in a high flow area of your sump. While using a media bag isn't favorable, or very effective Vs. a reactor, it will most certainly help.

I'm willing to bet your phosphate levels are much higher then what your test kits show as the algae outbreak is rampant.

Ok something odd is happening, you have posted twice, and I don't see either of them? I only see the last post by myself.

Good news and bad news. The good news is that I can see the photos, so I suspect others can as well.

The bad news is that I don't have any advice for you. Someone else will come along with knowledge, I'm sure.
