longnose butterfly

Has anyone keeped a longnose butterfly in a reef?

I have one. He's been a good citizen so far (1 year).

I got one a week ago. He is doing great. Has eaten some feather dusters when he first in the tank, but he has since left them alone and started eating mysis shrimp and Formula 1.

Would this size fish be ok in a 4ft tank?

I had one in a 75g and it seemed bored, even with a lot of swimming room around the live rock structures. Like mentioned above, mine ate mini feather dusters, etc. off the live rock, but never touched any corals.

After about a year my 6" YNB started swimming up and down the glass. I think a 4' tank is too small.

bjolly, what corals were with your butterfly

let's see....frogspawn, colt, mushrooms, plate coral, porites, xenia, star polyps, gorgonian, montis.

sadly I lost my butterfly in an ich outbreak a few months ago and I'm still bummed. He was a great fish. I can also confirm that he ate baby aiptasias. for a long time I've had one big aiptasia in the back that I can't reach to kill it. While the butterfly was with me that was the only aiptasia in the tank. Now that he's gone, small ones are cropping up again like they used to.

I do think a 4' tank is too small though. I wouldn't put one in a tank smaller than 6'.
