Hello.
I have always wanted to try my hand at keeping corals, but my display houses a puffer and a raccoon butterfly who would probably not allow me to get away with putting beautiful and expensive corals in the tank with them. The wife and I recently acquired a fluval edge 6 gallon tank for 25 bucks (an offer I just couldn't refuse) to set up in the bedroom. Since I cannot embark on my reef venture in my main tank, I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to give it a try and I hope to get a nano reef going in it.
I immediately decided to remove the top glass. I have large hands and don't want the hastle. That aside, the filter and lighting are still stock (it has the newer 21 led strip lights on it). I should have a koralia 240 showing up in the mail in the next week or so.
I am wondering what I should do for lighting to be able to keep corals sufficiently? Cheap is always a plus, but if need be I am plenty patient and can wait until I can purchase the better stuff.
Are there any other upgrades that I should consider doing to this tank to help things go smoothly?
Additionally, at this point I know nearly nothing about corals, though I will be researching whatever species I may wind up getting beforehand. Might I be able to get some suggestions on what corals I should choose first since I have no coral experience?
Aside from the corals I would like to stock it with a banded coral shrimp, a clown (maybe 2 clowns if it's do-able) a few hermits and a few snails. Does this sound okay?
I am open to any advice I can get, thank you for reading
