Big schools of them here, particularly off Lanai. They're smart too. They swim all around divers in schools, in a dazzling display, putting the diver completely in awe. But what they're secretly doing is leading the diver unknowingly towards Sergeant Majors guarding their nests of eggs. The Sergeant Majors are very defensive and will attack the biggest thing coming near their nests. Its a harmless nibble on the diver wearing a wetsuit but while the Sergeant Majors are distracted the raccoon butterflies pounce on the eggs. It's an amazing adaption to see but has become a regular part of my dive briefings in order to prevent it from happening.
