I am in the market for a standard size 125g (72-1/2 x 18-1/2 x 23-3/8) or a 150g (72-1/2 x 18-1/2 x 28-1/2) tank.

Must be drilled and have no scratches.

I already have the stand and lid.

If anyone knows of any for sale or of any pet stores selling them, please let me know.

Thanks

For a reef tank would you guys recommend a 125 or a 150. Both tanks have the same base area, the 150 is a little taller. I'm planning on adding 250w MH lamps.

Thing is I already have a stand and lid for the base dimensions of a 125

OK. Just make sure you will be happy with that. Don't want to limit yourself and build an entire system around somehting that can easily be changed now. I think a 125 is a great size. Gotta consider lighting with the 150 with that extra depth.

Since you're already set on the 72x18 dimensions I would personally suggest going with a 125 gallon. I have the 150 and cannot wait to start over with a shallower tank. In my opinion the 125 will be much easier to manage, as far as reaching things on the bottom of the tank for cleaning and maintenance. Also if the 250 watt lighting would be the same with either tank, the par will be stronger on the bottom of the 125 allowing for better coral growth on the sandbed. Personally , I will never ever get a "reef-ready" tank with built in overflows again.... I would suggest getting one undrilled....drill it yourself and add something like the glass-holes overflow kit....they take up MUCH less real estate and aren't as much of an eye sore as the others are.

So I think I am going to go the 150g route. I was planning to put 3 x 250MH lamps. The tanks I have seen have the center brace. I dont think I can put a MH lamp directly over the plastic brace not only because it will melt it but it will most likely cast a shadow. What can I do about this? Should I use 2 lamps? Should I replace the brace with a piece of plexiglass?

you can use the 250's put them in the open spaces not over the braces obviously but to eliminate the shadows, add VHO's or T5's and then add some LED strips to fill in the gaps nicely..

I have a a set of DIY reflectors that look just like those. I was thinking something like spider reflectors for cover the whole area.

Finally ordered my tank. I settled for a 72" 125g with corner overflows. Allpets had a 20% off deal going on. Had to get. Ill be getting it by midweek. Hopefully I will have it setup by MACNA so I can start loading it with frags.
