I got this as a little nub from a fellow reefer a while back. Looking for an id.

Here's a pic from a month ago(not the greatest)

I am sticking with Simplex. The linear coralites going up the branch should be a dead give-away.

It's a very nice one to. I would have to call it Sik-plex. lol

Could be an acropora tortuosa, depending on flow I have seen them grow very differently

I would have to disagree with you..even in different flow the coralites would still be the same.. I do agree that different flow will make the coral grow thick or thin but the coralites on this acro bend away from the body of it and they are not cupped like a tortusa..

That doesn't look like any of the A. simplex I have seen in person (or the frag I have). The first image looks similar to A. simplex, but as the coral has developed, to me it looks nothing like the species. It does not come close to Veron's images. The coral in question doesn't have a corallite structure that fits the description. "axial and incipient corallites are long and tubular"

The first pic is the most distinct to Simplex, agreed. I think what we are seeing in the other pics is the frag adapting to the tank and getting some funky structure. The cause for being so tubular could be a result of heavy branch extension. Or a change in water flow.

Any other guesses?

Just a note, i'm running an OR6500 return pump that goes into 3/4 pvc and then comes out in the corners of the tank as well as 2 k3's for flow. I also have changed the lighting since the first pic. in which my lighting was 2x175 watt 15k-xm's and 2 T-5 super blues. My lighting now consists of 2 x 119 watt 20k led units. The par level is way more than it was before.
