Looking for good camera

I need some direction, I'm looking for a good $300-400 camera prefferably from best buy. I would like a canon as I have heard fantastic things about this make. Also i'd like to know what lenses you use with yours, macro and such. Thanks

With your budget I am going to recommend a point and shoot camera as opposed to a DSLR.
I would recommend this powerful little gem:

No extra lenses required...your good to go right out of the box. This is as close as your going to get to a DSLR without actually having one IMO. I would rather have this camera than an entry level DSLR with entry lenses. It also has most of the controls a DSLR has, so you can learn about photography and know you way around a camera if you ever do want a true DSLR.

TitusvilleSurfer's suggestion is a great one, the G10 is very capable and is right around the amount you would like to spend.

Are you only planning on taking tank photos or do you have other things that you would like to shoot as well?

I can't stand the D40 or D60, I would say get a D80 or D90 of your going Nikon. Those cameras are also going to run a couple thousand dollars. They are like a tank without a skimmer or fish or...water. You need to buy a lot of expensive accessories to make them work well. Like the tank of a reef, the DSLR is one of the less expensive pieces of the greater puzzle.
The D60 would likely come with a "kit lens", but as I stated earlier, I would take a G10 over a D60 with a kit lens.

What DSLR camera and lens combination would you recommend for tank reef photos and family photos. I would spend up to $1000 for both. I have been looking at Nikon most recently.

I wouldn't recommend any DSLR camera and lens combination for reef tank and family photos for $1000. I would recommend a G10. lol
