looking for help....times ticking

I've been looking for some input and/or guidance for a fox face health issue for a bit, but have not had any luck with a response. Please help!!!

I have a fox face that is 3 weeks into hypo. It is in a 30 with several other fish. The fox face broke out with ich quickly, but recovered immediately and has been fine and eating very well. The fish has recently been showing a black spot area (one on each side about .75 mm diameter) for the past week and a half or so. I have not been able to figure out if it is a parasite, some other disease, or scarring that will heal.

I know that I can treat the issue if it needs treatment, while I have it in qt, but I can't figure out what the issue is. I don't have a camera that will take a good picture of the situation, but I don't mind taking a picture and emailing it to someone if they feel they can help.

Please help. Any ideas would be very appreciated. I have been posting for some help for a bit and would really like to make some progress.

Thanks.

Check the pH because it can fall quickly in hypo. If the fish is still eating and the black spots are not getting worse then don't panic. Foxface do exhibit a different coloration when they are stressed. Probably wouldn't hurt to make a water change.

I have a pH meter on the tank. It has been running a little low. I've been buffering it up and ordered some better buffer to aid in this effort. I also have been doing weekly 10 gallon water changes. Also a couple 2-3 gallon changes during the week. The coloring on the fish definitely changes dramatically, however these marks do not ever change from their black marking.

I had read that link. The picture does not resemble the issue. The spots on my fish are very contained in a small area of the fish. Would it be possible to be black ich if the fish is in hypo and the spots are so contained?

Should I do the formalin bath, or should I just wait it out and keep the water quality high and feed well? I definitely want to bring the fish out of hypo after the 5 weeks and introduce them to the tank, so if I need more treatment, I'd rather do it sooner than later.

Thank you for your input and insight.
