Hello,

I have a 300g tank that has (4) 250 MH and i want to go to LED's

Looking to hear from those that have had them on their tanks for a while.

What size tank do you have with LEDs, how long you have them, and what live stock you have under them?

Also who would you recommend I buy from?

Thanks
Jim Mc

I put a radion between my two lumen brights on my 180. I was two timid to get rid if one and puy led on one wide, although my tank is very bright. I am borrowing a pat meter to verify it equivalent. I also have it mounted at 16" like the brights and at a 100% like vivid was doing. The radion blends in well with the radiums. Time will tell, just did this on Sunday.

I have been running leds for over 3 years. Before that i had an SPS tank with 400w hamilton's, and another tank with 250's. For LED's i have used ecoray 60d's and reefbreeder. I like the LED alot more then any previous lighting I have had. I feel the growth rate is the same as metal halide but the coloring is much better. I also love the savings on electric and bulb replacement. Currently I have LED's over a 60 cube and a 90. The 90 is a mix with mostly SPS the cube is zoas. Everything is healthy and growing.

I have a 210, and a 75 gallon. I've had reefledlights.com DIY kits for maybe 3 years now. I like them, but there are pro's and con's. In short, if you have MH and no heat issues, I would keep MH. Cost isn't worth it, even when SKEWED electrical consumption numbers are used, real life bills vs. results still aren't worth it. Some coral do better, some worse. If you switch, you will have your own learning curve, and your own casualties, and success's. You are welcome to PM me and come by to see them, I can give a much more detailed explaination in person, too much to type. I do like them, but they are not as good/simple as most claim to be. I have a mixed reef tank, and an anemone 75 tank. 75 has (1) 250 MH, (2) T5, and (1) 60 led 3 watt 24" DIY. 210 has (4) T5, (2) DIY LED, and (1) MH250. I have removed a couple of my LED's and went back to MH in the last year. The LED still work, but they can't do what MH does, IME, yet.

I do like LED, and it does work, but if it was me, I'd travel back in time and smack myself silly. Too much money for not enough bang.

I used 6 AI Sols for my SPS 210, I like it much more the MH. Growth rate is okay, should be better when I fix my Alk issues.

4 250s on a 300 is not alot.... any newer leds will be at least as bright per unit as the 250's... brands are a plenty and each has its plus and minus's all in all the leds are cheaper to run long term on the powermeter and dont have the heat issues of the halides..

you could mix in a few leds with your 250mh since you have them already and then swap out the mh as the bulbs age
