Looking for led lighting suggestions for a 300dd

I am running 3 Kessil A360W's and a 60" ATI 4x80 Powermodules on my 300G DD. Have them about 12 inches above the water line, and the Kessils Ramped up to 75% at the moment. Plenty of light and so far so good. Corals are loving it!

What is the placement setup? Is the ATI centered with the Kessils running parallel to it? Mind posting a photo?

Ok thanks. By the way, these fixtures throw off a good amount of heat from the heat sink. Not sure what your tank requirements are, but that hood probably needs some fans to exhaust the heat and or humidity.

Edit:

Compliments on the really beautiful handiwork. Very neat and clean :)

Actually thats one thing I've been testing before getting it wet. I do have a forced air ventilation system on the books for the project, but even without it so far I've only seen canopy temps +10 degrees higher than surrounding inside air temps. So 72* in the house would be showing 82* in the canopy, and that's with all their power supplies mounted up in there too.

I have a build thread in the lounge I update from time to time. Thanks for the install compliment. It was all inspired from R.C. reef tank threads.

I did a LOT of research into different lights from the multiple 3W mulit-color panels to DIY to cannons and the Ecoxotic multi-chip eliptical 100w cannons repeatedly got bumped to the top of my list for trying to efficiently light a large tank and get good even PAR penetration to the substrate.

The Kessils were next, but I really like how the 100w cannons project a square light pattern due to it's unique reflector/lens. After all we are trying to light square aquariums.

Is this a stock photo or a photo from someone's build thread? If its from a build thread I would be interested in seeing it. Thanks for the input also, I'm building a 300DD and am asking myself the same questions as the OP.

Thats a stock photo of an LFS or corral farm.

It's off of Ecoxotics Flikr album. Lots of good install pics

It actually looks like they are only using 1x 12k wht and 1x blue cannon each to light a 300 square in that picture album.

I strongly recommend anyone using LEDs to use a PAR meter when considering spacing and mounting fixtures. Do not trust your eyes. Mounting height is critical especially on a 36" wide tank.

With the T5s off, what is the spread on the cannons?

Take a look into the 8x80/4x75 watt t5/led hybrid from ati. Best fixture on the market IMO. This fixture packs extremely high par, great color, controllability, optimum running temp, awesome spread, and great aesthetics. An all around win in my opinion.

Kessil spread is pretty good, supposedly 36x36. And they put out some serious light. I am working my way up 90% in the next month or so. Kessils just came out with the A360WE that put out 15% more light then the ones I have. But have not seen them in action yet.

Just took this pic, with my iphone 5 and the Kessils turned up 75% w/ T5's turned off

rbarn I just measured the temp of the heat sinks with an infrared thermometer. One read 112.7F and the other 113.2F. They get pretty warm and I'm running 55%. They increase the temp in my fish room, which is approx 7x10, a few degrees from the outer room. In a small enclosure, they will have more influence on the temp.

I'm in the same boat too (300dd). I decided to add 2x Sunlight supply fixtures (4X60" T5's) to 3x Reefbreeder Fixtures. I am still cycling the tank so the LEDs are on other tanks but very impressed with how much light the T5"s give off. Here are a few pictures so you get an idea of how I mounted them and what its going to look like.

Pictures of T5's on only

Tagging along as well. I will be setting up a 300DD in a few weeks. Having lighting dilemma as well. I've always used Radion 400 watt MH but thing of going with 9 - 12 Radion Pros with wide angel lenses.

It's definitely noticeable, like I said forced air ventilation is in my plans.

I look at these fixtures this way. If you like halides then the Ecoxotic Cannons or the Kessils are the way to go. If you like T5's then the broad array multi LED panels are the way to go.

I'm a big halide look fan myself. you get that deep water PAR penetration and single point light source look, sharp shadows ..... it just looks more natural to me.

Post a pic with the T5s off.

I have a DD 300 and am thinking about getting 3 radions with wide lense for sps dominant tank. Does anyone have this set up?

That's what I was originally considering but it seems the general consensus is three of them would not be sufficient for an SPS tank.

Well there's a heap of difference between being able to keep SPS and being able to grow them well.

It could work, and depending upon the rock formation you could work it so that the radions are right over the rocks. But I'm of the mindset that every piece of the tank doesn't need to be uniformly lit.
