Looking for live rock and a skimmer

I'm setting up a 125g tank and the last 2 pieces of the puzzle are the skimmer and the live rock.

For the skimmer, I'm eyeing up the new Octo Xtreme 250 - but I'm not married to it. (want to stay at or under the $500 price point) For the live rock, I'm thinking 200# of cured rock plus 30-40# of rubble for the tank and fuge.

I looked at the PA site and was really impressed with what I saw and with everyone's rave reviews - especially with the comments here. So what would you guys recommend for rock? Right now my basket on PA has 150# of premium Fiji and 50# of Kaelini Tonga Ultra Show - plus some rubble. (shipping overnight to Wisconsin) Will a mix like that look good? Or should I stick with one kind?

I'll be ready to place an order in probably 10-14 days. (I have the tank/stand/canopy - all my toys should be arriving late this week or early next week)

oh...and the skimmer is going to be in the sump and I have a MAX height of 28" - figure 27 to be safe (darn...missed the 60min edit cut-off by 2 minutes!)

Hello!
Its a hard call between the Fiji and Kaelini. We also carry Timora rock which has become very popular, lots of life and color and interesting shapes. Too much to choose from!!
As for the skimmer, the Octopus would be your best bet for skimmers under $500. You could also check into the ASM G3 AND G4's.

Rock is a matter od preference. Everyone has a different view on what looks nice to them.

As for the skimmer. I would even suggest the Euro Reefs. They have come down in price so it would still be still be under the $500 you want. They will out do the ASM skimmers. I have one and like it. The only thing is I have to clean out the venturi line every few days because of salt creep.

Thanks to both of you. After I wrote this, I did order one of the new Octopus skimmers - but I'm thinking you'll be my choice for live rock.

I agree about the Euro reef out doing the ASM...I didn't suggest it because we are out of stock at this time and I assumed you'd be ordering in the next couple of days..I think you'll be happy with the Octopus, and you can't beat the price..
