Looking for skimmer recommendations

Setting up a 75, and once again, I'm confused over the incredible selection and differing opinions. This is the single item (in my new setup) that I've had the hardest time deciding on.

I need it to be as quiet as possible.

As for budget.....I'd prefer it to be around $300.

Thanks.

I'm not really an expert, but I have a Euroreef and love it. Easy to use and install and pulls plenty of stuff out of the water. As far as price, you should be able to find one suitable for a 75 somewhere in or around your budget (particularly if you have the patience to find a used one). As far as sound, mine is under my stand and I can't hear it at all over top of the fans in my hood, my closed-loop pump, and my return pump. Because it just sits in my sump, it sometimes moves and the vibrations rattle it against the side of the sump (which is the only time that I ever notice it). It doesn't bother me enough to fix it, but I could remedy that pretty easily.

Good luck... skimmer hunting can be scarey and frustrating. They are expensive, so you don't want to screw this purchase up, and there are a ton of varying opinions out there.

ets downdraft or predator downdraft or beckett skimmer.the ets reefdevil would be in the price range and IMO it kicks butt compared to needlewheel skimmers.the contact time is huge on a ets skimmer and they produce a foot of foam compared to a 2 inch foam head on a needlewheel.both will work bot i think injected skimmers are quicker.and by the way more power hungry

Beckett skimmers are nice. I shyed away from them because of the huge pump needed to run them. I didnt want the noise nor electric cost from the pump. I as well run an euroreef on one of my tanks. I got a blem model from h2otropicals. I am not sure if they are still selling blems or not. It saved me some money.

If you aren't in a hurry sometimes you can get great deals on skimmers in the used equiptment forum. I got a huge aerofoamer for around $300. I'm talking one that was around $600 something when new.

I have an ASM G3 on my 135G, and LOVE IT!!! I paid a little over $300, and got teh recirc mod, the drain fitting in the collection cup, and the gate valve mod. I purchased from asmskimmer.com and received it within a week.

ASM g4 on my 135, g3 on my 75, and g2 on my prop tank... You could say I'm a fan... ;) Go recirc though...

I have been using a remora on my 90 which has been working fine, but I have decided to upgrade. I have been reading a fair amount and also want quiet and have read some really good stuff about the Tunze 9010 skimmer. It is around $325 and is supposed to be pretty quiet. I think right at the $300 range the ASM G3, or the Euro-Reef RS-135. People also seem to really like the Pacific Coast PS-2000. The ASM and the Pacific Coast are ones that people frequently mod to get the performance they want. I think the Tunze will be mostly plug and play (not modable) and will likely be the quietest of the bunch.

I just this morning ordered a 9010, so if you aren't in a hurry you can see how mine works and also see how quiet it actually is :)

I like my Coralife Super Skimmer 220. I've had it running for about 3 weeks and it has produced some great skimmate. I've emptied the collection cup twice now. I don't know if it can be beat in its price range.

Easily adjustable and sump or hob capable

I'd suggest doing it hob style in your sump. I've also modded it with a dorso standpipe which took about 5 min.

Jack, that sounds like a plan.

As you can see, I'm still struggling to decide on the skimmer. A month ago I was trying to justify the Deltec, but dang, those things are just too expensive for me.
