Looking for some I.D. help on 2 things

I have had these rocks for almost 8 months and now some things are starting to form that I need to know to get rid of or let them be.

The things are sprouting from the rocks.

This thing has been a slow grower but now its getting larger.

sponges. They come and go-- perfectly harmless and great natural water filters. leave 'em be.
