Sorry, for the undetailed post, but i am mainly looking for a 30 gallon tank (maybe a 20 high) i am intrested in breeding clownfish and wanted something about that size to start with. I know it sounds realyl wierd asking for 10 gals, but the fact that i attend college doesnt help with my financial status.

then you might need to put the clownfish breeding on hold and hit the books or take out a student loan.

Clownfish breeding is not cheap...Need rotis, algae, new sw every few days, books, and supplements. Just be prepared to spend more than you will make for quite a while before it becomes profitable at all. Go to www.rareclownfish.com , it is a great forum site for a lot of info on the subject. Tell them I sent you(my screen name is the same over there).

You have clowns that are breeding already? If not, you're not in a rush, trust me...

I used to breed clowns and once set up is to me pretty cheap. food is the main expense really. I have always been different in most aspects of the hobby and what I do doesn't always work for everyone. and of course I didn't care if I only got 20 fish per batch to live. I only collected 20-30 per 2 weeks.
not all clownfish need rotifers or phyto to feed them. there is golden pearls and newly hatched brine shrimp. find the smallest strain which I think an s strain sounds familiar. if you get some of the clarki complex they will normally accept this as a first food since they are normally a little larger when they hatch. I also had orange skunks survive and grow up on the larger strain of brine shrimp. every couple days I fed golden pearls instead of the brine because I read that only brine made them somewhat go crazy.
I had one time collected some orange skunks and put them in a 5 gallon bucket with an air stone and threw some brine shrimp eggs in with them and grew them out that way. there are some many ways to do it and experimenting with different ways is what I did alot of.
I vacuumed about 25 % of the water from the 10 gallon tanks and discarded it. then I filled it back up with water from my main display tank and that gave me a couple gallon change in the main tank. it also gave me the benefit of a strong bacteria population from the main tank.
lots of you can't do's on some of those places when you really can.
petland used to have all glass 10 gallons cheaper than wal mart had the junk tanks they stock. and you didn't have to buy the top or light with them.

PM me. I have a 30 T & 30 L, as well as 150 wet/dry w/ bio's. and 72 AGA bow I'm ready to get rid of due to recent upgrades.

i meant for both. i thought they were 8

BTW as for breeding clown fish be sure to hit me up when your ready. as most know i also used to breed black and white clowns. I have lots of stuff still that would be helpful to you. i dont have a need for it all anymore. I have rotirich/ i have phyto/i have roti collectors. some great books. all kinds of stuff.

also as said above unless your doing it on a large scale dont do it for profit. I know that i spent ALOT more then i made. but for use it was just for the fun of it. it was very interesting. after several hatches we got really got at it as well with almost a 80% success rate

honestly...the main reason i want to do it is to save the earth...in a kind of overexagerating way. but yes oceana im very intrested in learning more so if you want, you can eithe rpost what you have or PM me. Thanks a bunch

gimp if saving the world is what you are after breeding something easier is a good place to start. bangaii cardinals or any cardinals for that matter are mouth brooders and easily eat baby brine of any kind from day 1 . jawfish and gramma's, assessors and gobies are being bred on a much smaller scale and are more needed than clowns. there are thousands of clown breeders. so if you want to breed clowns I would suggest a not so common clown that might make it worth doing for you. if you breed regular ocellaris you will maybe get $4 each for them. if you got a less common species that retails for $40 or more you could probably get $10-15 each for them . not great but better than $4 . bangaii's and some of the others would most likely get you around $10 each maybe a couple $'s over that.
do you have a breeding pair of clowns already? buying a so called mated pair is something I would probably stay away from. but if you are wanting to start right away once in a while you can find a breeding pair. that is what you want is a breeding pair or a pair someone has had in their tank a couple years. huge old clowns eventually stop breeding and wild ones may never breed in captivity.

Oh, are jawfish easy to breed? ive always wanted some pearly jaws but im always scared ill loose them if i stick them in my 125 which already has an engineer goby in it. maybe i could breed bangai's and jawfish at the same time?
