Anyone know where I can find some live rock that's live? I'm looking for some rock with heavy macro growth. Anyone have some? Or know who does locally?

Thanks,

Joe

Yeah, I've been to Dr Mac's on occsaion, haven't ever seen any rock with macro on it. He had a lot of rock with corraline, just no green stuff.

Anyone up north have any?

I don't have liverock with macros on them, but I do have a few loose marcos I could bring to the next meeting if your interested. most would grow onto your liverock pretty quick--grape culerpa ect..
CaptKen used to have some interesting macros as well.

A word of warning though, once you get them into your system it will be next to impossible to get them out... grape culerpa became the bane of my existence for quite a while...
Cheers
Eric

"The bane of my existence" That is one of the funniest sayings! My main concern is getting something that the Tang won't mow through. I'm trying to get to the meeting on Monday, I'll get back to you for sure, thanks!

Hi Jo. Like Eric, I too have been fighting with some macro infestations. been curing some rubble rock in the dark to wipe out the hair, fuzz and taxifolia and green grape covering it. feather and grape have lots of hold fasts that grow back when you pick it.

but i do have some nice prolifera, and red type gracilaria? and a small bit of red grape i am re-cultivating. I have some small bits of halameda and razor left too. they all quickly attach to rock or gravel.

what would you like?

Ken,

I love the look of tanks with plant life in them. My problem is my Yellow Tang eats anything. Do you think any of those would be less than appealing to my fish?

I will bring a bag of some clippings to the meeting for you to try. If you are coming. or we can meet another time/place,. my tangs dont seem to care for these. and if kept under control can help act like an in tank fuge.

Here is a nice article on algea i got in an email notice from marine depot everyone should read.

a little refresher course.

Thanks, Ken. A good read. My tank is FOWLR, so the worries about suffocating corals go away, but then who really knows what I'll have in there in a year...

hey Joe, a little planting instructions i forgot to pass on. the long strand of prolifera will root on sand or rock with its hold fasts ,as will the short strand of razor caulerpa. the little sprout of halamedia is calcium based in structure and can be glued down with super glue gel. the itsy bitsy stem of red grape,(sorry only have a few small sprouts at at the time) and the red gracillaria can be tied down to a small piece of rock and hopefully attach in time.

If there is enough nutrient, light and flow in the tank, they should do pretty good and grow. keep them pruned.

hope that's what you were looking for.

Ken,

Thanks for the info, and for the cuttings! They are in the tank, and so far so good, the Tang hasn't eaten them.

Hey, sorry I hadn't had a chance to hit this thread before the meeting. I think ken gave you the two species I would have had to bring.(razor and money plant) But let me know if they don't make it and I will bring you a couple of larger pieces of both.
