Picked up a Tail Spot Frogfish thinking it was a Painted Frogfish, been trying to find more information about this type of Frogfish but haven't really found anything. Anyone have experience with this species of Frogfish or another type of Lophiocharon?

Here is some basic info on the tank he is currently in:
Tank: 37G 23x23x16
Lighting: 150 HQI w/10K Ushio Bulb
Aquascraping: ~30lbs of Rock in L-Shaped pattern covering back and left side of tank with the rest open sand bed
Filtration: Plumbed into sump shared with 78G Reef
Water Movement: Maxijet 1200 w/ Hydor Flotator (sp?)
Other inhabitants: 2x White Nassarius, and a bunch of coral frags from Main Tank

Here is a picture of the Frogfish in question:

If there is any other information you would like from me let me know.

TIA,
Josh

Look in Scott Michal's Reef Fishes, volume 1. It has a great chapter on frogs. I haven't kept this one, but I understand they lay large eggs, with basically mini-frogfish (rather than a larval stage fry) will hatch. Uberfugu has kept a few of this genus. You might try searching his posts.

As with all frogs, I'd suggest keeping temperature lower than 80, feed a few times a week (don't overfeed, these guys are gluttons and will eat to death). Keep water flow moderate.

Be careful with any fish tankmates, frogs will try to swallow fish bigger than they are.

Neat fish, good luck with it.

I have read Scott Micheal's Reef Fishes Vol. 1, I have read the entire section on Frogs there is one page dedicated to the entire Lophiocharon family so not a lot of information for this family.

I have looked for threads by uberfugu but no metion of them besides the one dealing with the isopod in the skin.

I run my reef at 79. As far as flow the return barely pushes any water so most of the flow is from the MJ 1200. There are going to be no other fish going in the tank with him.

Try sending uberfugu a pm. I do know he is really busy right now, and hasn't been on the boards lately. I know he posted at one time about a baby frog he raised (originally FOUND it in the tank) - it was a baby Lophiocharon. He has experience keeping the genus and even getting spawns.
