Lubbocks fairy - $25. Cheap as far as fairies go, and frankly a lot better looking than some of those pricey ones!

I think the bargain fish are the best. They are usually hardy and can live a long time.

My "rescue fish."

<a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v451/DNickell/?action=view&current=IMG_0388.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v451/DNickell/IMG_0388.jpg" border="0" alt="Sailfin"></a>

The LFS had this Sailfin brought in because a Maroon Clownfish had been pickin on it and was about to kill it. The original owner waited too long in deciding which fish to keep (he kept the blinking clown!!). The top fin was completely gone and down into the meat of the back. At least a quarter of the tail was gone.

The price: FREE!! The LFS had it in a sump in the back, since they didn't want such a damaged fish in their public display tanks. The owner cared enough about the fish that he was willing to give it to someone who would try to give it a good home.

The tail has grown all the way back and the color returned. The back has healed and the top fin has grown back just a bit. The fish is about six and a half inches from tail to nose.

My kids named it "Flat Top." It has made itself at home in my 120 gallon tank and spends most of its time with its nose in the liverock rooting about for algae. It also hangs out with its new buddy the Foxface (about eight inches long). They are seldom more than a body length apart. That's the Foxface's tail in the photo.

My $12 green goby.
