Low mag

Hi guys

On Tuesday my mag reading at lfs was 1320 and calcium 400
Yesterday I tested it to 1170 and 415 calcium
Today I get 1070 and 410

Kh remains stable since Tuesday at 8.1

Since Thursday I’m dosing triton method , 12ml doses of kalk, mag and calcium

My sps have polyp retraction , lps and softies all fine

I want to raise mag dose to get around 1250 on my test kit ( Salifert) , that way it can be 100 +/- to be in range

Now I know mag is difficult to test for and I can’t get to lfs before Tuesday to confirm I think I’m going to add an extra 8ml per day of triton mag but how much will that increase from 1070 if that’s correct ?

That seems like pretty significant Mg uptake. I’ve never dosed Mg before but perhaps this article may help some?

Scotty, what are you using to test Mg? Hobbyist grade mg tests are notoriously inaccurate.

I don't know about in Europe but, ICP in the US is closing.

Just saw this on another forum and thought I’d post it here - ICP Analysis is shutting down. It’s also at the top of their website: https://www.icp-analysis.com/ I never used them but if you have their tests, be sure to get them in.

Not all companies. Just that specific ICP Analysis business. I think there’s plenty of others still doing business in the US, I just can’t think of any because I’ve never used them.

I target 1,500 for MG level. You can dose with regular epsomes salt available at any groceries store

I also agree, 300 PPM over 11 days is quite a bit.

Salifert MG test kit is plenty accurate for our needs. If you are having troubles, perhaps you need to review your methodology
