Low Nutrients

Wondering how i can tell if my systems has high or low nutrients ,it shows i have around 25ppm of nitrate maybe even a little more, I just bought a vertex omega 150 yesterday and started bio pellets today just a small amount. I have a 75 gallon with a megaflow sump so about total of around 90 gallons or so. My birds nest are starting to loose there colour and the tips are starting to die.They are close to the surface so think i'm gonna move then down a bit just wondering why there doing that..is it my higher nitrates? My montipora looks to be loosing colour as well my old skimmer was a Berlin classic 250 and didn't do much and was broken for the last 2 weeks,so we were feeding fish less than usual.Any help will be great trying to get my nitrates on track here wonder if there my problem?Or i have to many nutrients in my tank

what kind of lighting are you using? If using T5s or halides, your bulbs may need to be replaced. Your lighting could be too strong or it could be too weak. Lots of variables to consider here. Pics would help.

3 tangs is way too much for a 75. 25 ppm nitrate is high. Are you running anything else like reactors? What are you dosing?

Usually when people talk about nutrients they mean nitrates and phosphates. Nitrates of 25 is high for coral, but not surprising for an overstocked tank. I agree the lights prob have something to do with the issue as well.

Sps will loose colour with high nitrates. You really need to bring the nitrates down to below 5. A skimmer which skims higher than your tank capacity and greater water changes would achieve this. Or you can look into vodka dosing to bring them down, but again you do need a strong skimmer for this.

Thanks everyone for the help. What I did was start using All in one bio pellets and my nitrates are now down to 1 ,wich makes me very happy corals are alot happier now

What three tangs do you have in this 75 gallon tank?

Yellow,sailfin,regal tang

Most of those tangs require a much larger tank. These issues may be results of overstocking.

Yah nitrates are good now got a new skimmer and using the bio balls.seems to be doing the trick

Just realize that when one of them dies from stress because its living area is not big enough, its on you..
