Lower energy equipment

Getting back into the hobby and was wondering if there have been any advances on lower (green) energy equipment.

I know about LEDs but any good pumps, water-flow or heaters that are lower energy I should consider?

I dont know any heaters that are low power consumption but if you take a look at Eheim or Tunze pumps/filters, they are efficient.

Actually, Im running a low wattage (75w) heater in my 65 gallon tank inside the Tunze Comline 3163 filter. Since its inside the filter it gets good water flow and has been good enough to keep my tank warm enough during this season - dont know how well itll do during winter yet.

The best step you can take to keep a low energy footprint is to keep a smaller tank :D

That, and avoiding the need for a chiller at all costs!

Dc pumps advertise more gph per watt, other than that heaters are still the same resistors, doubt there are much energy savings to be had there. You can get fancy with geothermal cooling or plumbing into the household water heater though.

I say use acrylic, keep the tank/sump mostly covered when you need to add heat. Will cut down on heater demand and reduce evaporation (rodi and possible need for fish room dehumidification)
