lowering nitrites?

Just tested tank and Nitrites tested at about .3mg/l.... first time in a year i have had any nitrites show up in tank... what suggestion are there for the best way to lower nitrites in the water?

did something die? There shouldnt be nitrites unless the tank is either still cycling or something died.. Do a water change, like maybe 8 gallons or so and see if that helps.

Not much you can do besides a water change, or to let the cycle finish. Check for something dead in the tank.

Probably a bad reading unless you had a recent ammonia spike .. s/b no big deal.

nothing dead, just added 4 Turbos yesterday... i do see little black things accumulating in one corner of my tank. they look like little rabbit poops actually... any clue what that is?

No clue what that is...could be anything, but i doubt its anything to do w/the nitrites...could it be the turbo snail poo? I know theirs is pretty big for a snail.

What test kit did you use?

i used a tetratest nitrite kit... and i actually think it is snail poop... anything to be worried about cleaning up or just let it sit on the sand until i can syphon it out during a regular water change?

for the tests...i dont like those ones. Try some saliferts and you should get much better readings. For the snail poop, i just leave it, but you need some good detrivors...get a bunch of cerith snails and they'll eat it up a bit.
