LPS in substrate?? placement questions

I have a 65g, and have a green/purple frogspawn, pink and green candycanes, and a green/pink hammer. About 6 weeks ago I upgraded from pcs to a 150w halide (14k). I have the light in the center of the tank, and my frogspawn and hammer are just to the left and placed in the middle, in a semi-direct spot. They just don't get near as big or brightly colored, and I worry that they're not in enough light, although they seem happy and healthy. Canes are mid level and are constantly being knocked to the ground, I've given up on re-gluing (my turbo snail is an evil, evil thing).

Under pcs they all were as high as possible and lovin' it.

I was wondering, is it okay to put them in the substrate? I was thinking of moving them to the sand under the light (lower but centered) and see if that has any effect on their color/size.

Where do you have your euphyllia/candycanes, and what light are you running?

I have alot of SPS in the sand, either direct or on frag mounts. The only problem I have noticed is that they often get sand on them. Go figure.

I have moved a few of them up recently, glued to the lower rocks, and they seem to like it better. Coloring up more, extending more tentacles at night.

I have a 60g reef 48" wide and 16" deep under 520 watts of PC lighting.

My frogspawn is doing great in the sand and my candy cane is doing recovering nicely placed at mid-height (it was not doing well until I doubled the amount PCs from what I had originally).

as long as the flesh is not on the sand and the skeleton is supporting the coral flesh (flesh not resting on the rest) then you should be fine. i have frogspawn and hammer in my rock work and a torch in my sand, they are all doing fine. they are pretty adaptable.
