Hi all.

Im currently looking into purchasing some LPS. Mainly acans, challice and candy canes. Can anyone give me some pointers on the basic requirments for these magnificent corals. I understand calcium is a big part of their care. Any advice welcome.

The only one I have kept on your list are Candy Canes and I've found their one of the hardiest corals I have ever kept.Dont seem to need much light or flow.

No significant requirements for most. Low to moderate flow and the same for lighting. Most should be fed a few times per week.

As far as water chemistry, I would check Alk, Ca and pH on a regular basis... but that holds true for any reef tank.

I'd just suggest finding a few specific types you like and doing a little research on them before you buy. I've just started keeping LPS myself, and they don't seem too horribly difficult. My water parameters aren't perfect (can't seem to get those nitrates much less than about 5 meq/L), but my hammer, candy cane and cup pagoda all seem to be doing quite well. Each one has slightly different requirements and levels of hardiness, though, so be careful about overgeneralizing this (or any) group of corals.
