LR question

I was just looking through the threads about people buying LR and within a short amount of time, they have "hitch hikers". some good, some bad, hitch hikers nonetheless.

Heres the question. Is it wise to actually set up a SW tank with LR/LS and let that go for a while to see what may pop up if anything? I mean, if you get creatures that could kill corals and whatever else, wouldnt you rather get rid of them BEFORE introducing corals and fish to your tank?? Should you let the tank run with LR/LS for a good while? Or does it not matter?

I think it would be kinda cool to have LR, wake up tjhe next day and see all these hitch hikers. It's like Christmas morning............never know what you're gonna get. LR party!! :celeb3:

I just came across some Aptaisia that spawned off my LR....my tank is only up and running 2 months. Not happy, but I have also just saw a bristle worm so you do get the good and the bad. Right now....I have no fish...just a CUC/inverts. Now I have to start combatting the Aptaisia.....grrrrr!!

If you cycle your rock in an aquarium where you can see it most pests make themselves known during that time. That is one of the advantages to cycling in a tank rather than a Brute trash can. I like to use dry rock and add live rock from a trusted source like one of my tanks or a friend's.
