LR - sump, DT, or both?

as long as the system has the amount of live rock it needs, does it matter if that rock is actually in the display tank, or can a large portion of it be in the sump for example?

fish need rocks to hide from other fish or if they feel the light is too bright right?

i think fish would be stressed without rockwork

It doesn't matter where in the system the LR is for filtering the water purposes.

great thanks.....I still have a lot of live rock in the DT for the fish to hide - I just wanted to "open" the DT up a bit by moving some of the LR into the sump.
