Merry Christmas,

I bought an LTA from my store last night.

First params:
35 gallon
130 watts of lighting t5
78degrees
gravity 1.025
pH 8.3
Ammonia and Nitrite Undetectable
Nitrate- less than1 ppm

His foot wont attach..
he's open more than he was at the fish store. But he just sits there foot open and hasnt moved from his spot all day. I can see he tried burrying in the sand and apparently gave up. I had the lady at the store feed it before I left...ate..and had been there for a few weeks.

Also tonight I noticed he was sitting on top of a mushroom...yikes and when i move it the mushroom was shriveled but there was slimy stuff floating around...I hope it didnt damage it too much.

Should I just relax and wait? Or is there reason for concern?

Pics are on the way..stupid laptop wont read my card.

I can't tell how its mouth looks but so long as its relatively tight I would let it do its own thing for a while. Just make sure it doesnt float off into any powerheads or overflows. It looks pretty bleached so it will need some time to acclimate and recover. unfortunately its a very common event in shipping but if it hung on at the store if you can keep it going it may just bounce back.

it's mouth isnt "gaping" I tried a sebae like 6 months ago..and that was gaping. Its mouth actually is closed. It just sits there...power heads are off I just have the protien skimmer going.

It's actaully alot greener than it appears in the pictures. Whats the normal turn around time for an attachment? Or is that just based on the health and water params?

Since you added it only last night, its still acclimating...give it time but as mentioned keep it away from powerheads. It will attach when it finds an area of the tank it likes...mine took about 5 days.

I have had two M. Dorensa, aka Long Tenticle anemones, and they both put their foot between two rocks, not in the sand. But like dalston said he is new and they take a few days to attach.

Good luck,
Aaron

No, but there is a chance that an LTA will host a true perc. ;)

Hey, maybe the nem will attach it's foot to the perc, then it will be like the perc is hosting the LTA :lmao:

har har ....so..I fed the guy last night...came home from work today...he detached from the rock...tentacles are completely deflated and hes closed up...still moving...is this part of the digesting process?

More than likely seeing as you just fed it, you may even notice it will regurgitate some that i can't digest. Give it a little time and it should inflate again...

Normally it wouldn't be an issue, they will do that from time to time. But, combine that with the fact that it released, it is a little worrisome. Something to keep an eye on.

on the note of it liking being in the sand...within the first few days of purchasing it..it tried burrying in the sand...its foot just got all torn up and white looks kinda weird.

The sand itself shouldn't have damaged the foot at all.

Actually, that isn't a good sign at all. I have had a few that came in like that, and I hate to report that they never recovered.

Does it look anything like this?

no...that in my opinion looks heathly...what is on the bottom looks more like sponge..white slime.

If you think that picture looks healthy......

Is it possible for you to get a picture of yours?

honestly...mine looks like it's got a real bad suntan...its not nearly as pink...or red as that. My girl has the camera right now.
