Lucy's Lagoon

I don't know how many of you have made the drive south to Huntsville or not. I recently had to make a trip down there and stopped in at Lucy's Lagoon. What a nice selection of corals they had. If you like caps you must check them out sometime. Before I new it I walked out with a candy cane coral, red cap w/ blue polyps, encrusting monti with green polyps (looks like a superman with green polyps instead of blue), and another branching monti. Nice place great employees. Prices were ok. Somethings were quite high as far as polyps and zoos go. Nice though that they had frags and not just all colonies. They had an awsome super rare red acan. The owner even told me the story about how someone tried to steal it and made it out to the parking lot with it. They even had an article in the paper about it. Not a big fish place but a larger coral collection than any store in Nashville. I would take pics but my cam is pretty bad. :(

I lived in Huntsville for 4 years and Lucy's lagoon does have a wide selection of coral. However, alot of their tanks are generally invested with flatworms and red bugs. The good thing is that the employees who work their are generally honest about it and tell you when they have a problem and that you buy at your own risk. I have always been worried about buying stuff from there though because I have seen so much infestation of these critters that I feel nothing there is completely clean. I would seriously watch the peices you got from them for any such activity. But overall it is a good store that tries to keep a wide selection at reasonable prices.

I'll be visiting my family in Huntsville in the next week or two. Will have to check them out. I know where it is, it's just that I never take the time to go in there.

Thanks for the heads-up. I will certainly keep an eye out. Now that you mention it I remember seeing a box of flatworm exit. :(
So far everything looks good though.

Dave it was nice to see a store with the room they have for corals. Too many times it seems local LFS order stuff in that does not sell. The unsold coral takes up space limiting new arrivals.

If you are coming to Huntsville area, be sure to check out Coral Reef Aquatics (256-604-9773.) They are open only on weekends right now. You might get in during the weekdays if you make an appointment with John Newby ahead of time. If you thought Lucy's was good, wait till you see the CRA. Their prices are better than Lucy's, too.

If you ever go down to Birmingham, check out Aquarium Design. They have a superb selection of livestocks, dry goods and hardware. Check out Philip Root's frag shop in the back of Aquarium Design. Absolutely the best in the region.
